Shop Architects:”Introduction”

Versioning: Evolutionary Techniques in Architecture

The  term versioning "is an operating term meant to describe a recent significant shift in the way architects and designer are using technology to spend in time as well as in territory the potential effects of design in our world." In architecture, "versioning can be seen as an attitude rather than an ideology." But how does this system works? "Design decisions are base on an organization tragedy capable of responding to the effects of the speed, turning, gradients congestion and the landscape to create a fluid behavior or variable movement.”

The reading concludes that versioning, as a process, “empowers the architect to take on the role of the translator of unforeseen relationships simultaneously in imagined and real space.”

How does versioning operates in different scales?

  1. I think versioning is dependent upon scale. I see versioning as a flexible term that can involve different factors or forms. I think the scale of versioning is similar to the scale of design. If we think about factors of site consideration, they are most certainly different to detail assembly. However, as movement, I think the attitude of versioning opens up possibilities to foster multiple interpretations to solving a given problem
